Our Living Donor Committee will meet periodically throughout your evaluation process to discuss the results of your tests. This committee is a group of experts whose responsibility is to determine whether donation is in the best interest to you, the donor. The three possible outcomes are:
You’ve been found to be a suitable candidate for donation. We will proceed with teaching you the details of the operation, and getting surgical consent from you. Once we have your permission to perform surgery, we’ll schedule the donation operation at a time that’s convenient for you, the surgical team, and the recipient.
Additional testing or appointments will be necessary before the committee can make a decision that's in your best interest. They will inform you which additional tests you’ll need to go through, and then re-assess your results.
Based on your medical, psychological, or social condition, the committee has determined that donation is not in your best interest. The reasons behind this decision will be disclosed to you only. The recipient candidate can still receive a kidney transplant through the wait-list, or from another living donor.
