7. Evaluation Decision

Different members of the transplant team will meet routinely throughout your evaluation period to determine whether you are a viable donor. Your well-being is the number one concern during these meetings, so they’ll assess whether your medical and psychological conditions allow for a safe donation surgery.

Donor Accepted

You’ve been found to be a suitable candidate for donation. We will proceed with teaching you the details of the operation, and getting surgical consent from you. Once we have your permission to perform surgery, we’ll schedule the donation operation at a time that’s appropriate for you, the recipient, and the surgical team.

Donor Deferred

Additional testing or appointments will be necessary before the committee can agree upon a decision in your best interest. They will inform you which additional tests you’ll need to go through, and then re-assess your results.

Donor Declined

Based on your medical, psychological, or social condition, the committee has determined that donation is not in your best interest. The recipient candidate can still receive a liver transplant through the wait-list, or from another living donor.
